Orlando Business Leaders’ Favorite Events
Where
do our hard-working business leaders like to go when they have a rare
day or evening off? We took a fun peek at the area events that get
these five individuals away from work and out the door with friends and
family:
Bob Berryhill, General Manager, Mercedes-Benz of Orlando in Maitland• Winter Park Concours d’Elegance“I love fine automobiles, and this is the most prestigious automotive event in the area, period.”
• Jazz Jams Uptown “Could
you ask for a better combination? Great jazz and balmy summer nights
make for a wonderful outdoor evening, with food, drink and socializing.
We try to go each month, May through August.”
Alan Findlay, General Manager, ChampionsGate Golf Club
• Black & White Gala“Give
Kids the World is such a remarkable organization. The Black & White
Gala is one of their annual fundraisers, and is on May 8th this year.
It will be a very elegant, and fun filled evening, and there are always
fantastic one-of-a-kind items for bid in the Silent & Live
Auctions.”
• Orlando Food & Wine Fest “I’m
an active member in the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association
(FRLA), and they are a major Partner of the annual Orlando Food &
Wine Fest, along with 103.1 WLOQ, who produces the weekend event. It
provides a great opportunity to try food from many of Orlando’s top
restaurants, along with great wines, while enjoying live entertainment
in the excellent outdoor location that is Lake Eola.”
Gary Meloon, owner, Southeast Marine Sales & Service • Share the Care Golf Tournament“Share
the Care is a charity very close to my heart, as my wife and I were the
primary caregivers for my grandmother for several years. I know how
hard it was, and wish I had the great resources back then that Share
the Care can provide. The upcoming golf tournament at Rosen Shingle
Creek on April 30th is a great opportunity to help other families with
similar challenges, while enjoying a great day of golf!”
• 25 Years of Hope (Annual Awards Dinner for House of Hope Orlando)“My
wife and I have been involved with this group for years, probably due
to the example my parents set for me when I was young – they were big
supporters of youth groups at our church. This major fundraiser on
February 20th provides much-needed resources for troubled teenagers. Be
ready to be greatly entertained by the young people in the form of
skits, singing, music, etc., along with both live and silent auctions.”
Lincoln Salmon, owner, Salmon Agency • Princess Ball“I’m
an avid supporter of Harbor House and the amazing work they do. The
Princess Ball is a top-notch fundraiser, and the only event in the area
I’m aware of that focuses on fathers and daughters. It’s a very
entertaining evening!”
• Taste of Oviedo“I
really like outdoor events, and Taste of Oviedo is in April, when the
weather is generally great. It’s a chance to kick back and enjoy good
food, music and entertainment with your friends and neighbors.”
Brenny Watt, owner, Elder Move Managers • Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival“I
love viewing and acquiring art. The Sidewalk Art Festival showcases a
variety of styles while offering many affordable pieces. The outdoor
festival atmosphere provides a multi-sensory experience of sight,
touch, sound & taste that everyone can enjoy. Tip – go late in the
day, when parking is more available and it’s less crowded!”
• Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk (Space Coast walk coming up March 6th)“In
my line of work, I see first-hand the damage that Alzheimer’s disease
can do – not only to the afflicted party, but to entire families.
Memory Walk provides an easy way to raise money while enjoying a day of
fellowship with others who have been affected in some way by this
devastating disease.”
